You are never too young to have an After I’m Gone book

I have a cheap exercise book that lives with my important papers and I like to review my book at the beginning of each year.  It is my After I’m Gone book.

You can buy these with preprinted questions and tips, but I like my exercise book that holds all the answers to my After I’m Gone questions.

The aim of my book is to provide my next of kin with all the information that they will need to help them after my death.

Included in my book is a list of:

  • Where to find my will (I cannot stress the importance of having a valid and updated Will and Power of Attorney)
  • financial institutions where I have accounts,
  • details of my superannuation and life insurance,
  • details of other insurances such as home and contents, car and health
  • pin numbers (although I don’t write the numbers but give clues)
  • letters to loved ones
  • last wishes

My book also outlines my farewell wishes: whether I prefer a funeral, celebration of life or private gathering, which songs to play, and how and where my remains should be kept.

Keeping this book is not morbid or depressing; it is practical preparation that your family will appreciate when the time comes.
