NOIM

What is a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)?

The Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) is a legal document in Australia that couples must complete and lodge with an authorised celebrant at least one month before their intended wedding date. It declares your intention to marry and provides essential details required for the marriage to be legally solemnised.

Part of the form needs to be completed by you and the other part by your authorised marriage celebrant.

For more information on the NOIM please have a look at the  Attorney-General’s website

What you will need to complete the NOIM:

  • date and place of birth for both parties
  • personal details of parents.

You will also need to provide the celebrant with the following information for them to complete the form:

  • proof of date and place of birth:
    • a full Australian birth certificate (not a commemorative certificate) or foreign birth certificate
    • an official extract from a birth register
    • an Australian or foreign passport
  • proof of identity with a photo, such as a driver licence, passport or official identity card
  • proof that a previous marriage has ended (if applicable) –  either a divorce certificate or a full death certificate (if widowed).

From 12 June 2024 the Notice of Intended Marriage may be witnessed remotely.
